Fashion Student Appeals to School for Plus-Size Mannequins

Nayyara Chue, a bridal fashion design student at Parsons School of Design in New York City, noticed only one of the stock dress forms at the school was plus-sized. Unhappy with the lack of choices she has to work with, Chue started an online petition imploring Parsons to provide its students with more plus-size mannequins.

Chue's reason for the petition is to give the students who want to create plus-size clothing the proper form to work on. At $300 per form, it's not an item all students can afford to buy on top of paying for tuition, books, cost of living in NYC, etc.

As of today, Chue has 3,895 signatures on the petition (her goal is 4,000). By making the goal, she hopes Parsons will take heed and help its students be more productive and precise in their designs. From Chue, in the petition:

"...the school should keep its word on housing the designers of tomorrow and adopting progressiveness as their motto; installing more plus-sized mannequins in our classrooms would open a lot of doors to emerging designers who believe in sizes higher than 8."

Chue has a point: You can't break ground without the proper tools to do so.
