Even Gigi Hadid Deals With Body Shaming
Most women would have a tough time relating to Gigi Hadid. From the outside, she has a charmed life: Thin, gorgeous, rich, BFFs with Kylie Jenner and dating Zayn Malik. Still, Hadid gets her fair share of body shaming , and, like the rest of us, her feelings get hurt. In a podcast with Vogue to promote the August cover, Hadid talks about reading hurtful comments on her social media pages. Hadid, who had healthy body issues prior to Instagram ("You do everything you can to be healthy and do what makes you feel good and feel happy. That's just always how I've looked at it.") was beginning to take its toll on her. "Everyone is affected by the pressures that come from being on social media," Like the rest of us, Hadid found comfort in her friends. "What also really touched me that week was my friends that came to me that hadn't done so before," says Hadid. "Everyone from my friends that are considered plus-size models to Victoria's Secret Angels who are often shown a lot of hate for being too skinny. Neither are too much this or too much that — they're bodies." OK, it's hard to level with a woman who considers VS Angels as friends, but to each her own. Hadid now uses her social media pages as a platform to combat online body shamers. “It’s a way that people get to know us other than a face on a page.”
