Weight Watchers Austrailian Promo Makes Gaffe

To promote the WW Black campaign in Australia, Weight Watchers sent out mood lightbulbs to reporters. Why? Read the ad copy sent out with the bulb: Let’s be honest for a minute, sex is pretty damn fantastic. But if you’ve ever felt self-conscious in the sack you’re not alone – we’ve heard that more than half of women have avoided sex because they were worried about how they look. This globe is a ‘mood light’ designed to give you a little boost in the bedroom (a PG sex toy, if you will). We hope it helps you start seeing yourself in a new light – to love how you look and love how you feel. Here. We. Go. Again. Who approved this message? Why did anyone at WW think it was a good idea to abandon its self-empowerment movement they committed to earlier this year? Why did they go back to their former ways of feeding insecurities for a bump in membership fees? Weight Watchers' defense was referencing research done by the Maidstone Consulting, a firm that indicated about a quarter of Australian women avoid sexual activity because they’re self-conscious about their bodies.
