Discovery Girls Accidently Gives Its Readers Body Issues

Parents are upset that a magazine for girls ages 8 to 12 featured a swimsuit story with recommendations on hiding figure flaws.

Earlier today, writer Taffy Akner blasted Discovery Girls over the layout via Twitter. In the story, the swimsuits are grouped for those "curvy on top," "straight up and down" and "rounder in the middle."

Catherine Lee, publisher of Discovery Girls posted a letter on Facebook apologizing for the layout. An excerpt from the letter leads one to believe that Lee was unaware how the final story turned out:

"It’s still hard for me to believe that an article so contrary to our magazine’s mission could have been published on our pages. I have been a loss for words for days. The article was supposed to be about finding cute, fun swimsuits that make girls feel confident, but instead it focused on girls’ body image and had a negative impact."

In publishing-speak, some heads are gonna roll at tomorrow's meeting.
