Zara to Carry Plus Sizes Thanks to Tenacious Teen

Until recently, going into a store and not finding plus sizes was the typical shopping experience for many people all over the world. For one young shopper in Spain, that occurance was no longer acceptable.

Anna Riera, 18, of Spain, started a petition on Change.org to get international retail giant Zara to carry clothing sizes up to 2X. Riera was inspried to start the petition by her mother's frustration finding clothing in her size to start the petition.

Addressing retail conglomerate Inditex and Amancio Ortega (the owner of Zara and also the second-richest man in the world), Riera call for an extension of sizes at Zara's 2,000 stores worldwide. :

"It is not only denying people the right to be able to shop in the most well-known stores in the world, but it is also saying that large sizes are not normal sizes, are not sizes that can be bought in any clothing shop....We need to start designing for people, not for stereotypes. We need to let go of labeling and discriminating against ourselves because we do not wear clothing according to our own physical sizes, but according to our personalities."

With more than 97,000 signatures for the change, Zara will now include sizes up to 2X for some items online. This isn't the first time Riera battled Inditex: She collected over 100,000 signatures to stop the corporation from producing abnormally-thing mannequins for its retail stores.
