Set Your DVR for NBC's "This Is Us"
Among the stories on the upcoming NBC series "This Is Us" (which has the distinction of being the most viewed trailer ever) is about a plus size women struggling to accept herself and find love at the same time.
As Kate, actor Chrissy Metz is ready to embark on a groundbreaking character, one that is way overdue. “I have been in Los Angeles for a long time and I have wanted to be a series lead for a long time. It’s literally on my bucket list. But opportunities for plus-size women are very few and far between,” says Metz at yesterday's "This Is Us" panel at the Television Critics Association summer press tour in Beverly Hills (via BuzzFeed). “[T]o actually have [a character with] some substance and actually tell a story that other people can relate to… We need to write more of those stories. We need to not always be the butt of the joke.”
“I’m ready to encourage and support people on their journey because I’ve been encouraged and supported. I just hope I make people proud,” says Metz. “Because I waited for this for so long, I’m like, 'Bring it on! Let me do this! Let me show up! Let me rise to the occasion!' “
"This Is Us" premieres September 20 on NBC.
