Body Acceptance Gave Way to Unhealthy Lifestyle, Study Says

A recent study has concluded that body inclusivity is leading to health risks in the U.K.

The study conducted by Dr. Raya Muttarak, a sociologist at the University of East Anglia and the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis in Austria, reviewed both the demographic and socioeconomic characteristics associated with underestimation of weight status to reveal social inequalities in patterns of weight misperception.

In other words, more and more people (read: plus size people) are underestimating their weight. And those underestimating their weight are 85% less likely to try to lose weight.

The study stems from growing global concern about rising obesity rates and follows a 2017 report by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development that revealed 63% of adults in the U.K. are overweight or obese.

The full report will be published in a medical journal next month, but remember this is coming for a sociologist, not a medical doctor.

While Dr. Muttarak brought up some good points (like how nutritional food is more expensive than fast food, therefore setting up poorer people to fail) this is not exactly a call to action. Seeing people who look more like a majority of the population isn't a health risk. This report is another obesity scare tactic. Nice try, though.
