3 New Year’s Resolutions You Can Make in January

There are people who plan out their New Year’s resolutions months in advance and can’t wait for January to they can get started. Other people don’t consider their goals for the new year until that new year arrives. Both are valid forms of preparing for the year to come. If you’re one of the people who prefer to wait and you’re looking for New Year’s resolution inspiration, we have three you can make in January. Keep reading to get some ideas.

Start Volunteering

While many people volunteer during the holidays, charities and similar organizations that depend on volunteers need assistance year around. If you volunteered somewhere during the winter holidays and enjoyed it, make it a goal to reach out to them and find out what help they need in the new year. For those who’ve never volunteered, start researching charities that work in a field you’re passionate about. You can probably find a related charity in your area and contact them about volunteer opportunities.

Plan Adventures

Getting out of your comfort zone and going on adventures can feel scary, but planning them out can help turn that fear into excitement. A new year is a great opportunity to challenge yourself and plan something adventurous. You can start small with the goal of visiting a new restaurant before spring. Or you can jump off the deep end and schedule an international vacation to a country you’ve never visited before. Adventure is purposefully vague here, so whatever is challenging and affordable for you, go for it.

Learn a New Skill

Another way to challenge yourself in the new year is to learn a new skill. There are many popular needlecraft trends you can try in 2023, along with other popular skills. Gardening, journaling, cooking, photography, and meditation are some of the other popular skills people often try in the new year. All of these new skills can help you take care of your mental health, express yourself, and grow as the year goes on. If you try a new skill and don’t like it, that’s OK. Try another one. At the end of the year, you can look back and see what new skill you learned and pick a new one to try next year.

These three New Year’s resolutions are easy to make in January. They can help you improve the lives of others and your own life. If you don’t like the resolution you made in January, then make a new one as the year goes on. There’s no hard and fast rule that says you can’t change goals as you try new things.
