Simple Ways To Make More Eco-Friendly Decisions

Simple Ways To Make More Eco-Friendly Decisions

It seems we hear about the negative effects global warming has on the local and global environment every day. You may feel like a small fish in a big pond, helpless to stop it, and many don’t want to try. However, it's crucial to know that there are small changes you can make that can benefit your local environment. As such, you’ll likely want to know about these simple ways to make more eco-friendly decisions.

Reduce and Reuse Over Recycling

We often hear the old adage: reduce, reuse, recycle. Many of us tend to lean toward recycling our products versus doing the other two. However, you might not have known that recycling requires a great deal of energy usage. That’s not to say recycling isn’t a good thing, but we tend to use it as a fallback rather than making true changes to our lifestyle. If we recycle everything we use, we end up consuming more resources and materials. As such, when you can, try to reuse your items instead of tossing them in the recycling bin.

Purchase Locally for Bees

When we think about global warming, we can’t help but think of the bees, as they’re essential to so many aspects of human life. With that in mind, we might believe supporting and saving the bees is as simple as walking into a grocery store and purchasing honey. However, the environmental impact of honey production can be negative to our local environment if we purchase from mass producers that ship their products from other countries. Doing this doesn’t help our local environment at all. That’s why you should try to purchase honey from local vendors, as this helps support the bees native to your area and produces fewer emissions from transportation.

Conserve Energy at Home

One of the simplest ways to make more eco-friendly decisions is to conserve your energy usage in your home. The reason this is such an easy option is that you can purchase LED light bulbs that are incredible at conserving energy and using it efficiently. Moreover, you might also consider investing in blackout curtains, as this will help keep cold and hot air from entering your home. You won’t have to use your HVAC system as heavily.
